There are two types of fiber: insoluble and soluble. The insoluble fiber or roughage is indigestible and works like a broom in the large intestine to giving bulk and size to stools and promotes regularity. Soluble fiber, which absorbs many times its own weight in water, binds with fat, cholesterol, and debris in the intestinal tract for elimination. Psyllium hulls provides both soluble and insoluble fiber.
