The Healing Power of Horsetail
Horsetail, oftentimes called joint grass, resembling a stack of upright towering green pipes, somewhat like miniature bamboo sticks. Horsetail, generally found growing in moist, rich soils, where the temperature is temperate and grows in Asia, North America, and areas of Europe.
Horsetail contains the highest amount of Silicon of all known herbs; not only does Horsetail contain Silicon, but also contains vitamin C, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, vitamin E, vitamin K, potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, copper, and chlorophyll. Just listening to this list, it's no wonder that Horsetail can be used for a large variety of health problems.
Its diuretic astringent is excellent for getting rid of swelling of soft tissues, of urinary tract infections, edema, joint diseases, hair loss, brittle nails, skin health, diabetes, osteoporosis, blood in the urine, urine suppressions, kidney stones, bladder irritations, nocturnal incontinence, and incontinence period. It supports adrenal function. It aids in hair growth. It helps to heal wounds and relieves burns, and it even contains natural antimicrobial properties.
I just want to share some scientific studies that have been done on this particular herb, Horsetail. There are lots of anecdotal reports that tell of Horsetail's ability to improve brittle nails. This is due to the fact that Horsetail has a high content of Silicon, which is the nutrient known for boosting skin, hair, and nail, and nail health and nail growth.
HEALTHY NAILS. One clinical trial combined salt sulfur with Horsetail and applied it nightly for 28 days to the nails of 36 women who had nail alterations. The searchers that did this particular clinical trial observed a significant decrease in those long longitudinal grooves that we often see in nails, as well as an 85% reduction in patients reporting splitting nails, and meanwhile, the untreated control group experienced no significant change at all to their nail health. In another study, 22 women with nail problems applied Horsetail randomly on the nails of one hand only on alternating days for 14 days. Overall, the test product significantly improved splitting, fragility, and longitudinal grooves of the nails.
WOUND HEALING. In 2015, there was a randomized placebo-controlled trial that was published and found that a 3% horsetail ointment promoted wound healing, unrelieved pain during the ten-day trial period following an episiotomy. Another study out of Turkey used animal subjects.
In 2013 found that ointments containing 5 to 10% of Horsetail provided a significant boost to diabetic wound healing, a randomized, double-blind clinical trial was published in 2014, and they had volunteers alternately taking a standardized dried extract of Horsetail and a placebo group took corn starch at the same dose.
EDEMA. I know another group was given a conventional drug for edema treatment. They did this for four days and then separated by a ten-day washout period. And what did they discover? The researchers measured the diuretic effect of the horsetail supplement. They found that the Horsetail produced a diuretic effect equal to that of the conventional diuretic medicine without any significant changes to the liver or kidney functions or to electrolyte elimination. And this is incredible because many of the conventional diuretics cause electrolyte imbalances.
JOINT PAIN. Horsetail is also great for joints. It's known to hold anti-inflammatory properties. Actually, it has a long history of using, Horsetail for calming inflammation. So it is an herb that also helps with inflammatory and degenerative joint disease.
KIDNEY FLUSH. I want to share my very incredible one-day joint kidney flush. This is only for one day and is for people that may have serious joint, kidney, edema problems; they can even do this one day a week for five weeks or even more if need be. Take one glass of water with a squirt of organic lemon, take two capsules of Natures Sunshine K, two capsules of Hydrangea, and two capsules of Horsetail. And about an hour and a half later, take one glass of water with one tablespoon of Nature's Sunshine's Chlorophyll, take two capsules of K, two capsules of Nature's Sunshine's Hydrangea, and two capsules of Horsetail alternate and repeat all day long. This is not a food fast; you're just drinking the water and taking the capsules about every hour and a half to two hours.
And then there's a significant difference that happens in the cleansing of joints and in the cleansing of the water that causes edema.
HORSETAIL TEA. I also want to share a horsetail tea. How do you make Horsetail tea? You could sit down, relax, and sip on a cup of well-brewed horsetail tea, pour one cup of boiled water over about four open capsules of Horsetail. Allow it to steep for five minutes. Enjoy.
In conclusion, I want to say that Horsetail contains a wide variety of vitamins, minerals, and beneficial plant compounds, and its benefits are for boosting the state of hair, skin, nails, improving joint and bone health. It's a potent antimicrobial property, and it's great for wound healing, candida, burn relief, and treating edema.
